Australian Open Sabalenka Storms Into Second Round With Comfortable Win

Australian Open: Sabalenka storms into second round with comfortable win

Sabalenka was in ruthless form as she dismissed qualifier Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets

The No.2 seed needed just 67 minutes to secure a 6-3 6-2 victory on Rod Laver Arena

Aryna Sabalenka has wasted no time in reaching the second round of the Australian Open, dismissing qualifier Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets on Tuesday.

The No.2 seed was in ruthless form as she dismantled her Czech opponent 6-3 6-2 in just 67 minutes on Rod Laver Arena.

Sabalenka broke Vondrousova's serve four times and won 70 per cent of points on her first serve to set up a second-round clash with China's Wang Xinyu.

The Belarusian is one of the favourites for the title in Melbourne and will be looking to improve on her best result at the Australian Open, which is a semi-final appearance in 2021.

Sabalenka's victory was one of several upsets on day two of the Australian Open, with No.3 seed Ons Jabeur and No.5 seed Aryna Sabalenka both crashing out of the tournament.

The biggest shock of the day came when No.1 seed Iga Swiatek was stunned by qualifier Elena Rybakina in straight sets.

Sabalenka's win was a welcome boost for the Belarusian, who has struggled for form in recent months.

She will be hoping to continue her good form when she takes on Wang in the second round.
