Starting from fourth on the grid, Verstappen made a strong start and quickly moved up to second place behind polesitter Nicholas Latifi. The Dutchman remained on Latifi's tail for much of the race, but was unable to find a way past. With just three laps remaining, Verstappen finally made his move. He closed in on Latifi and overtook him with a brave move around the outside of the Variante Ascari. Verstappen then held on to claim his first F2 victory, with Latifi finishing second and Nyck de Vries completing the podium. Verstappen's victory was his first in Formula 2 and comes after a difficult start to the season. The Dutch racer has shown impressive pace throughout the weekend at Monza, and his victory today is a just reward for his efforts. The win also moves Verstappen up to third in the F2 Drivers' Championship standings, with 115 points. He is now just 11 points behind championship leader Latifi. The Formula 2 Championship now heads to Sochi for the final round of the season, which takes place from 27-29 September. Verstappen will be hoping to continue his strong form and secure a top-three finish in the championship standings.
